Proletarskiy District is situated to the southeast of Rostov region on the river Manych right bank. To the north the district boarders with Veselovskiy, Semikarakorskiy and Martynovskiy districts, to the east – with Orlovskiy, to the south – with Salskiy districts and with the republic of Kalmykia.
The district administrative center is town of Proletarsk, located 220 km away from Rostov-on-Don. The distance to the nearest regional towns is – to Salsk – 34 km, and to Zernograd – 149 km.
The distance from the district administrative center to Krasnodar and Volgograd is 340 km and 365 km correspondingly, to Moscow – 1290 km.
Proletarsk is one of the Rostov region youngest towns. The two anniversary dates: 30th anniversary of Proletarsk and 125th anniversary of village Velikoknyazheskaya were celebrated by the district citizens in year 2000. The village Velikoknyazheskaya was founded at the Kara-Chaplak (Cheplak) tract in the first half of the 13th century, at the time of the Mongol-Tatar invasion.
The Proletarskiy District main trade is agriculture. The leading agricultural enterprises specialize in grain, rice, oil specimen, dairy, meat, fruit and vegetable production; in cattle, sheep, swine, horse breeding and poultry farming of various kinds.
The district territory is crossed by the regional motorways “Rostov-on-Don - Stavropol”, “Kotelnikovo – Zimovniki – Salsk – Peschanokopskoe (to the Volgograd region boarder)”, and “Proletarsk – Sukhoi – Bolshaya Orlovka”.
The railway station “Proletarskaya”, connecting the regional southern districts with Volgograd, is located at the district administrative center.
The distance from the district center to the Rostov-on-Don river port and airport is 220 km, to the Azov seaport - 221 km.
The district social sphere institutions are represented by the Elderly people and disabled social care center, the juvenile social rehabilitation center, Department of Social support, charitable organization “Don Cossacks”, charitable organization “Sodeistvie”.
