The history of the Bokovskyi District dates back to December 28, 1934, at that time, due to the Azov and Black Sea region’s district division, the Veshenskyi district was split up into Bazkovskyi, Bokovskyi and Veshenskyi districts. In 1963 the district was abolished, and in 1970 in compliance with the RSFSR Supreme Soviet Presidium Decree the district was reestablished again.
The Bokovskyi District is situated in the northern part of Rostov region. To the east it boarders with Volgograd region, to the south-east - with the Soviet district, to the south - with Kasharskyi district, to the west - with the Verkhnedonskyi district, to the north – with the Sholokhov district of Rostov region.
The distance from the district administrative centre village Bokovskaya to Rostov-on-Don is 340 km. The distance to the nearest administrative centers is: Kashary – 70 km, Oblivskaya – 97 km, Millerovo – 118 km, Veshenskaya – 171 km. The distance from village Bokovskaya to Volgograd is 280 km, to Krasnodar – 604 km, to Moscow – 999 km.
The Bokovskyi District main trade is agriculture. The territory of 168.3 thousand hectares is being planted by wheat, barley, millet, sunflower. The district has 135 agricultural enterprises, including 80 farms, 19 agricultural co-operatives. Their main trades of production are grain and industrial crop production and cattle breading.
The largest district agricultural enterprises are: agricultural co-operative “Kolkhoz Bokovskyi”, agricultural co-operative “Kolkhoz Krasnokutskyi”, agricultural co-operative “Kolkhoz Karginskyi”, agricultural co-operative “Fishing Kolkhoz Mayak”, mixed fodder plant “Bok-Don” Ltd. In 2008 the district agricultural enterprises' production gross profit averaged in 748.9 million rubles (the approximate prices of year 2005).
The transportation from the Bokovskyi district settlements to the region center and neighboring regions is carried out by the motor transport. The district is crossed by the regional motorway "Millerovo - Veshenskaya". The distance from village Bokovskaya to the Ust-Donetsk river port is 384 km, to the Rostov-on-Don river port and airport – 340 km, the Azov and Taganrog seaport – 399 km and 411 k correspondingly.
