One of the hosts of the World Cup in 2018 in Russia was Rostov-on-Don, which hold 5 of 64 matches. Four games has been held at the group stage on the football arena of the Don capital on June 17, 20, 23 and 26. Another meeting has been taken place in the 1/8 finals of the World Cup on July 2. The 45,000th Rostov Arena played by teams: Brazil - Switzerland (17.06), Uruguay - Saudi Arabia (20.06), Korea - Mexico (23.06), Iceland - Croatia (26.06), Belgium-Japan (02.07).
Recall that for the first time Russia accepted such a tournament as the World Cup in football. It was held from June 14 to July 15 in 11 cities in 12 stadiums: in Rostov-on-Don, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Sochi and Yekaterinburg. 32 national teams from different countries took part in the most prestigious football tournament of the planet.
In order to take the tournament at the highest level, by the beginning of the championship Rostov-on-Don was transformed beyond recognition for the better.
The main stadium of the region during the World Cup was the newly built Rostov Arena sports complex, which can host 45,000 spectators of the tournament, including 754 VIP seats and 2,280 press seats covering this sporting event. In the capital of the capital training bases were: Lakomov stadium in Azov, Torpedo in Taganrog, stadiums SKA and Trud in Rostov.
Visitors to the championship in Rostov-on-Don were informed about city attractions at the airport. For this purpose, special interactive terminals were installed there. At the same time, excursion movement of tourists was organized on special transport. Also buses and stops were equipped with map-schemes with the most significant routes, and on the streets appeared Russian-English pedestrian and road signs. On city taxis, the symbols of the World Cup 2018 also appeared.
The Rostov fan zone, which was located on the Theater Square, simultaneously accommodated 40,000 fans. The second fan zone was the Fountain Square, where another screen was installed. About 1000 Rostov volunteers helped the organizers to hold the World Cup in a worthy manner. Volunteers helped to serve the fans' festival and participate in the information and tourist direction. The main task of the 2018 World Cup volunteers is to create a friendly and hospitable atmosphere of the sporting event, as well as provide the best conditions for spectators, football players, media representatives and official guests of the World Cup.
