Fortress Lutik is the archeological monument, located at the boarder of the preserve-museum Tanais protected zone.
This fortress played a significant role in the system of Turkish fortifying walls, next to Azov, closing the access to the Cossack fleet from the northern channel of the Don delta.
The fortress was erected in the middle of the 17th century.
When the fortress was seized by the Don Cossacks during the Peter the Great Don land campaigns, it was equipped with 30 cannons, supply of cannon balls, hand grenades, guns, etc. When the Turkish army was taken away from the Don delta, the fortress Lutik was established as the postal post.
