        Rostov region is the land of rich and glorious history, generous nature, peculiar Cossack culture, talented and hospitable people. The region is situated to the southeast of the European part of Russia, at the lower Don basin. Rostov region was established on September 13, 1937. The region covers the territory of over 100,8 thousand km2. The administrative center is the city of Rostov-on-Don (with the population of over 1 million people), the large industrial, cultural and scientific center, transportation junction of major land and water main lines. The distance from Rostov-on-Don to Moscow is 1226 km. Due to political and social stability and commonwealth of more than 100 nationalities, inhabiting the Don land, the contemporary Rostov region is one of the most highly economically developed regions of Russian Federation.

         While traveling through the Don land, the tourists can get acquainted with the rich historic past and modern life of the steppe land, its places of interest, poetic legends and peculiarities of the Don Cossack way of life.

         One of the most famous local places of interest is the unique archeological preserve museum Tanais, the gateway to the ancient Scythian and Sarmatian cultures.

         One of the most ancient Don land towns is Azov, the place where the Russian Fleet glory was born.

         The town of Taganrog offers a variety of cultural and archeological monuments, it is also the homeland of the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov.

         The town of Novocherkassk, the capital of the Great Don Cossack Army, has the only museum of Don Cossack History in Russia.

         The Cossack village Veshenskaya is not only a beautiful place of Don land nature and Cossack history, it is the homeland of the Nobel prize winner, famous writer Michael Sholokhov.
